Legal requirements
The Air Code of the Russian Federation obligatorily requires aircraft owners (individuals and legal entities), as well as air carriers, to insure:
- Liability to 3 persons (Article 131 of Federal Law No. 60). When performing transportation within the Russian Federation, the minimum amount of insurance coverage is equal to 2 minimum wage on the date of signing the contract of carriage for each kilogram of the maximum take-off weight of an aircraft In international transportation, the liability limit is established by the law of the country of arrival.
- The life and health of the crew members (Article 132 of Federal Law No. 60). The minimum amount of insurance is from 1 million rubles per person.
- Civil liability to passengers (Article 133 of Federal Law No. 60) in accordance with Federal Law No. 67 dated 06/14/2012. The minimum amount of insurance for harm to life and health is 2,025 million rubles, property with a passenger is 23 thousand rubles.
- Responsibility to the owner or sender of the cargo (Article 134 of Federal Law No. 60). The minimum insurance amount is 2 million rubles for each kilogram of cargo.
- Responsibility of the operator during aviation operations (Article 135 of Federal Law No. 60).

The insurance covers the liability of the owner and/or operator of the aircraft to third parties for damage caused to life, health or property as a result of an aviation accident.
